Microsoft's BIG answer to Opensource Community

This site is Microsoft’s BIG answer to the opensource community.

Microsoft on Tuesday is expected to officially launch a community-building Web site where it will share code with developers.

The CodePlex site will be a venue for Microsoft to provide programmers with tools available under its Shared Source licenses. These licenses allow people to view the source code of products, the software giant said.

The site, which had been in beta testing, is meant to foster more interaction between Microsoft and programmers with technical information and software, it added.

Popular products already available on the site include Microsoft’s Atlas AJAX development tool kit and Iron Python beta 1.

The launch of the code-sharing site is one of several moves Microsoft is making to adjust to the growing popularity of open-source software and development practices.

By making the code to their tools available, software vendors hope to entice developers to become familiar with the products and, potentially, purchase more functional versions or buy support.

CodePlex was built using Microsoft’s collaborative development product, called Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server.

Great short story!

Once upon a time, there was a king who ruled a prosperous country. One day,
he went for a trip to some distant areas of his country. When he was back to
his palace, he complained that his feet were very painful, because it was
the first time that he went for such a long trip, and the road that he went
through was very rough and stony. He then ordered his people to cover every
road of the entire country with leather. Definitely, this would need
thousands of cows’ skin, and would cost a huge amount of money.
Then one of his wise servant dared himself to tell the king, "Why do you
have to spend that unnecessary amount of money ? Why don’t you just cut a
little piece of leather to cover your feet ?"
The king was surprised, but he later agreed to his suggestion, to make a
"shoe" for himself.
There is actually a valuable lesson of life in this story : to make this
world a happy place to live, you better change yourself – your heart; and
not the world . . .

The meaning of the Gayatri Mantra!

The meaning of the Gayatri Mantra!

The Gayatri Mantra is the universal prayer enshrined in the Vedas, the most ancient Scriptures of Man. A Universal prayer is that which is to be chanted with devotion for one’s spiritual benefit in all the ages in any part of the world. We have to recite the Mantra as follows.

OM
BHUR BHUVA SVAHA
TAT SAVITUR VARENYAM
BHARGO DEVASYA DHEEMAHI
DHI YO YONAH PRACHODAYAT

The Gayatri Mantra can be translated as
OM
Para Brahman
BHUR
Bhu Loka (Physical Plane) – This refers to the five elements this body is made up of
BHUVA
Bhuva Loka (Middle Plane) – This refers to the power in man which animates the body. This is actually the Prana Sakthi
SVAHA
Swarga Loka (Heaven)
TAT
That, this refers to God, or Paramatma.
SAVITUR
That from which all is born
VARENYAM
Fit to be worshipped
BHARGO
The Radiance, the Spiritual Effulgence, the light that bestows wisdom.
DEVASYA
Divine Reality
DHEEMAHI
We Meditate
DHI YO
Buddhi, Intellect
YO
Which
NAH
Our
PRACHODAYAT
Enlighten.
The Gayatri Mantra may be translated as follows
OM (OM) – We meditate (DHEEMAHI) upon the Spiritual Effulgence (BHARGO) of THAT Adorable Supreme Divine Reality (VARENYAM DEVASYA), the Source (SAVITUR) of the Physical (BHUR), the Astral (BHUVA), and the Heavenly (SVAHA) Spheres of Existence. May THAT (TAT) Supreme Divine Being enlighten (PRACHODAYAT) our (NAH) Intellect (DHIYO) (So that we may realise the Supreme Truth).

Java, Java, Java!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Java, Java, Java!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

public class Test{
public int aMethod(){
static int i=0;
i++;
return i;
}
public static void main(String args[]){
Test test = new Test();
test.aMethod();
int j=test.aMethod();
System.out.println(j);
}
}

This code looks perfectly okie for any person who is well through in C++ and who starts learning Java. But it is not a complilable code. This gives complilation error at line number 3. The reason is very simple, you can’t have a static variable inside any function. They can only be declared as Class variables. If you wanna have the same expected functionality as in C++, the above code can be modified as,
public class Test{
static int i=0;
public int aMethod(){
i++;
return i;
}
public static void main(String args[]){
Test test = new Test();
test.aMethod();
int j=test.aMethod();
System.out.println(j);
}
}

Beautiful little story!

Beautiful little story!

Wonderful mail I got from a friend of mine! Read till the end!

Greetings to you this Day!!

I hired a plumber to help me restore an old farmhouse. He had just finished a rough first day on the job – a flat tyre made him lose an hour of work and his electric drill quit. And now, to top it all, his ancient one ton truck refused to start. As I drove him home, he sat in stony silence. On arriving, he invited me in to meet his family.
As we walked toward the front door, he paused briefly at a small tree, touching the tips of the branches with both hands. Upon opening the door he had undergone an amazing transformation. His tanned face was wreathed in smiles and he hugged his two small children and gave his wife a kiss.
Afterward he walked me to the car. We passed the tree again and my curiosity got the better of me.
I asked him about what I had seen him do at the little tree. "Oh, that’s my trouble tree," he replied. "I know I can’t help having troubles on the job, but one thing’s for sure, those troubles don’t belong in the house with my wife and the children. So I just hang them up on the tree every night when I come home. Then in the morning I pick them up again."

"Funny thing is," he smiled, "when I come out in the morning to pick them up, there aren’t nearly as many as I remember hanging up the night before."

All of us face problems. Most of them are momentary. The trick lies in leaving them on your own ‘trouble tree’ and not allowing it to affect your loved ones and your work. Leave these problems on a ‘trouble tree’ and you’ll find that most of them are not there when you go back to pick them up! Some of us have these ‘trouble tree’ in the form of a hobby or a work-out or community service. It could be anything! But it takes time to master!!!

Identify your trouble tree, master the art of hanging your problems on it and……………… Make it a great week ahead!!
Sounds gr8 rite?

Fwd this to your dear friends!

Cheers,

A Touching Story

F A M I L Y

I ran into a stranger as he passed by,
"Oh excuse me please" was my reply.

He said, "Please excuse me too;
I wasn’t watching for you."

We were very polite, this stranger and I.
We went on our way and we said good-bye.

But at home a different story is told,
How we treat our loved ones, young and old.

Later that day, cooking the evening meal,
My son stood beside me very still.

When I turned, I nearly knocked him down.
"Move out of the way," I said with a frown.

He walked away, his little heart broken.
I didn’t realize how harshly I’d spoken.

While I lay awake in bed,
God’s still small voice came to me and said,

"While dealing with a stranger,
common courtesy you use,
but the family you love, you seem to abuse.

Go and look on the kitchen floor,
You’ll find some flowers there by the door.

Those are the flowers he brought for you.
He picked them himself: pink, yellow and blue.

He stood very quietly not to spoil the surprise,
you never saw the tears that filled his little eyes."

By this time, I felt very small,
And now my tears began to fall.

I quietly went and knelt by his bed;
"Wake up, little one, wake up," I said.

"Are these the flowers you picked for me?"
He smiled, "I found ’em, out by the tree.

I picked ’em because they’re pretty like you.
I knew you’d like ’em, especially the blue."

I said, "Son, I’m very sorry for the way I acted today;
I shouldn’t have yelled at you that way."
He said, "Oh, Mom, that’s okay.
I love you anyway."

I said, "Son, I love you too,
and I do like the flowers, especially the blue."

FAMILY
Are you aware that if we died tomorrow, the company
that we are working for could easily replace us in
a matter of days.
But the family we left behind will feel the loss
for the rest of their lives.

And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more
into work than into our own family,
an unwise investment indeed,
don’t you think?
So what is behind the story?
