June Search Market – reported by Compete

Compete.com had put the June search market shares. MSN/Live came with a surprise taking 13.2% of total search market share while Yahoo in second position with 19.6% and Google leading the pole. This is a steady increase by MSN/Live search which continues to impress me with the improvements over the search. And its image search is the best of its class. Below are the total compete statistics.

Compete also tells that this steady increase come from Live Search club which made the difference for June. Not sure how this goes in a long run. But, as Compete tells, if MSN/Live going to improve its search results, this will be a real threat to Google’s monopoly in search market.

See the steady raise in MSN/Live. Even if it is temporary, good job Live search folks – specially to the marketing folks for coming up with an idea of club.live.com!

My IIS7 articles

Take a look at these articles in my blog tagged with IIS7 – they are very basic, simple articles which I started posting in order to share my knowledge about the new IIS7. Since, the UI is changed to a great extent, it is essential to know where are the classic options available in IIS7 manager which were available in the properties of the website in IIS6 manager.

Articles range from some UI information to adding websites programmatically. Feel free to give your comments and suggestions on them. I’ll be adding more articles as and while I continue learning IIS7.

If you are interested in learning about this new web server which is going to get released with Windows 2008 Server, check the articles of mine on my technical blog.

Tree plantation – Microsoft GTSC – Bangalore

On June 30th 2007, a group of volunteers from Microsoft India GTSC planted close to 200 saplings along both the sides of the inner ring road near Domulur. These will also have a fence around them with a board – "Maintained by Microsoft" as it is really watered and maintained by Microsoft folks.

Below are some pictures taken by Saurabh Dhall and Rahul Bose of Microsoft India GTSC:

Save. Conserve. Recycle.
Because we can give back what we’ve taken.

Above is the tag line for this entire drive – which was really nice.

What did Microsoft India GTSC do?

  • Placed kiosks for recyclable paper and this will be sent to vendors who will help process it appropriately.
  • With the help of the Forest department commissioned planting of trees on inner ring road. This will be maintained with fencing & regular care for the plants.
  • Exploring the option of converting CFC to HFC in our building air con and also using recycled plastic where we do not have an option of not using plastic.
  • Converting halogen lights to CFLs
  • Look at having shuttle vehicles – LPG based
  • We have sensor based lighting in the office to save energy and cabin lights are switched off if no one is using it.
  • Awareness to the drivers on effective use of vehicle to conserve fuel.

This is what makes Microsoft a great place to work for. Other than the technical excellence you get on your work, you will feel really good working here for Microsoft.

Special thanks to Arti Yadav of Microsoft India GTSC for making this blog post happen 🙂
