Pluto – no more a Planet in our solar system

Yeah, I heard the news long back, but didn’t quite read the reasons for taking Pluto out of the planets of Solar System. Thanks to Fraser Cain to posting this one. It was so informative. Just copying the important point in his article why Pluto was deplanetized:

"For an object to be a planet, it needs to qualify in three categories:

  • It needs to be in orbit around the Sun – Pluto… check
  • It needs to have enough gravity to pull itself into a spherical shape – Pluto…check
  • It needs to have "cleared the neighborhood" of its orbit – Pluto… nope.

What does "cleared its neighborhood" mean? As planets form, they become the dominant gravitational body in their orbit in the Solar System. As they interact with other, smaller objects, they either consume them, or sling them away with their gravity. Pluto is only 0.07 times the mass of the other objects in its orbit. The Earth, in comparison, has 1.7 million times the mass of the other objects in its orbit."

Bye bye Pluto. I’m sure everyone will miss you as a planet, but don’t worry, you are still with us – the solar system residents.

Get-a-Mac | Hollywood-stylemovies?

It was interesting to see this little ad-campaign of Apple marketing or promoting Mac in The Forum Shopping Mall, Koramangala, Bangalore. They had a little booth where there were some beautiful gals, and ofcourse smart guys too trying to give away some iPods to those who can do some basic stuffs with Mac.

When I was there, I heard them calling out for people who knows to create some movie with movie making software with Mac, winner goes home with an iPod. And, for a long time, I didn’t see anyone going to make the movie. I know the Bangalore crowd is bold enough to go to the centre stage to do this. I felt the reason for the little silence was not many people are aware of how to use a Mac, and that’s the primary reason for this ad-campaigns, huh?

But, Apple you have got a long way to make an average Indian know about Mac. Majority thinks Windows means computers, computers means Windows. If you ask some of my friends who are not in IT field, "do you know Apple?", they tell me, "An Apple a day keeps doctor away!", some know iPod, but none knows about Mac. You might need such a kind of campaigns more to sell your brand!

PS: I didn’t intend to take this picture with those gals in the background. Girls, please excuse – anyway your faces are not so clear in this picture.
